I love taking a class online! I can work on it anytime I want, view tutorials for help, and chat with others! It is a fun way to explore new things with a little guidance! However, I do value the live contact every once in a while as well!
I enjoy face to face interaction and learning. The one online grad class I took for for my master's degree seemed like a lot of busy work. It felt like the prof was trying to justify the format rather than teach the course. This might be due to her technical skill or lack there of.
I like the concept of online classes, but I think there needs to be a mix of face to face as well as the email and blog threads. I have taken 2 classes online thus far, and see that for grad students it is definitely the wave of the future. I also can see it as a benefit to those students who might not be successful in a traditional setting. I do know it requires a great deal of self discipline to stay on it!
I have never taken a course online either. I have taken an art course using VCR tapes. It was horrible! It was an introduction to art, that I had to take for credit. I think that I needed the help and discussion from a class and instructor. I passed the class, but by the skin of my teeth.
I prefer to be in class with a facilitator that knows where to find things and can at the very least point me in the right direction. When I get lost I am just out of commission and give up easily. I have also felt like this class has been a cloud over my summer even though I am enjoying meeting with people from my group and learning new things I would have prefered to take it during the school year since it has been drawn out so long.

ReplyDeleteI think I need more personal attention and help. If I get stuck on something, I'm lost for awhile and feel desperate.

ReplyDeleteI have never taken an online class, but facilitating this one has certainly been an interesting experience.
